Empowering 4,486 Women Through Digital & Financial Skills Across 25 Districts
Over the past five months, we’ve witnessed a powerful movement of learning and transformation as 4,486 women across 25 districts in Uganda participated in our digital and financial empowerment program. With a strong attendance rate of 81.94% and an impressive completion rate of 83.55%, these sessions have made a lasting impact.
From Adjumani to Kyeggegwa: Widespread Engagement Across Uganda
Districts like Kamuli, Bududa, Kyeggegwa, Busia, and Kapchorwa had the highest participant counts, with Kamuli leading the way. These women, primarily from informal sectors, engaged in hands-on sessions designed to help them adapt and thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Diverse Participation, Unified Purpose
The participants came from a wide range of occupations, with the largest groups being Farmers (45.65%), Peasants (19.22%), and Business women (11.55%). This diversity highlighted the universal need for digital and financial skills—no matter your background, digital tools are now essential.

A snapshot of impact—program attendance and completion rates reflect strong engagement across all participating districts.
Skills That Transform Lives
The women learned how to use digital tools such as WhatsApp Business, email, and mobile money to enhance communication, marketing, and financial management. From identifying computer components to securing online transactions, they embraced a new way of thinking and working.
“I’ve learned that I can easily sell my coffee and onions to friends outside my community and receive payments directly on my phone. This knowledge will benefit many in my community!”
— Muyama Florence, Chairperson of Bukasabi Women’s SACCO in Bududa

A Celebration of Progress
The program ended with certificate ceremonies across the districts, symbolizing not just completion, but transformation. Attendance remained high throughout the week, with enthusiastic participation until the final day.

The impact of the program also drew recognition from key national stakeholders. The Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission commended the initiative’s reach and effectiveness in promoting digital inclusion, especially among women in underserved communities.

While the program primarily targeted women, it was heartening to see that men also took part in the sessions—recognizing the value of digital and financial literacy for themselves and their families. Many husbands actively encouraged their wives to attend the training, supported them through the learning process, and, in several cases, joined the sessions themselves. This spirit of shared growth fostered stronger household and community bonds, reinforcing the idea that empowerment thrives through collective effort.

Sustaining Impact Through Digital Champions
To ensure the momentum continues beyond the sessions, we equipped selected Digital Champions in each district with tablets. These individuals—identified for their leadership, engagement, and willingness to support others—will serve as local points of knowledge, helping their communities continue using digital tools with confidence.
By placing digital tools directly into the hands of grassroots leaders, we are fostering a ripple effect of empowerment, where knowledge and skills can continue to grow long after the formal training ends.
